"The Gathering Inn at Hancock....what a godsend.... After completing Middlebury Gap; an incredibly steep mountain pass in Vermont; we descended the other side as it began to drizzle and the sun was setting we were not looking forward to another night in the freezing cold without a campground. We entered the small town of Hancock and stopped at the first hotel we found... the only real hotel in town. Unfortunately her 4 rooms were filled and she suggested we try across the street. We were reluctant to even call, assuming it would be out of our budget. Upon meeting the hosts at the Gathering Inn we were immediately comfortable and felt right at home..... Yes, we ended up staying 2 nights at this lovely inn being lured by the pot bellied wood stove, the 8 cats, Fluffy the chicken and the amazing company. It was also pouring down rain upon arising the next day making it an easy decision to wait out the rain.... A smart decision as the following day the sun was shining and we were well rested and fed, ready to hit the road."
